Mirage/ Way Station Step 1

Step 1: We made a Parti with a model of our groups idea's and explaining what we were going to do and use. Then we put together models because we changed our ideas a little bit. After we meant with everyone in the critique room, we came up with a new to scale model.

Mirage/ Way Station Step 2

Step 2: We experimented with concrete by practicing with different molds and aggregates. We found that the mold should be sturdy rather than the silicone cake molds that we used for the circular stone. We also found that cat litter is not a good aggregate because it is too small to hold the concrete together.

Step 3: We made the squares and rectangle boxes out of wood and cut the circles out of a cardboard cylinder. At first we nailed down the edge, but we found that it did not found together as well as when we used duck tape.

Step 4: We started pouring the concrete into the circles, squares, and rectangles. We used pebbles as our aggregate because cat litter made the mold break easier.

Step 5: When the concrete was still in its green state, we began to start putting texture to our final molds. We used sand paper to get all of the bumps and the unevenness out. Then we wet the top so it would be easier for us the use the wire brush and then trace over the pattern with screwdrivers so the pattern would not wear off.
